Dhanmondi Thana

Dhanmondi Thana (dhaka district) with an area of 7.74 sq km, is bounded by tejgaon and mohammadpur thanas on the north, lalbagh thana on the south, ramna thana on the east, hazaribagh and Mohammadpur thanas on the west.

Administration Dhanmondi thana was established in 1976. It consists of three wards, 20 mouzas.

Historical events bangabandhu sheikh mujibur rahman was arrested by the Pak army on the night of 25 March 1971 from his Dhanmondi residence. He, along with his family members, was assassinated in a military coup on 15 August 1975.

Population 162088; male 54.87%, female 45.13%; Muslim 98.02%, Hindu 1.3% and others 0.68%.

Communication facilities Roads: pucca 42 km, mud road 10 km.

Traditional transport Palanquin, bullock cart and horse carriage. These means of transport are either extinct or nearly extinct.

Cottage industries Goldsmith, tailoring, handicrafts and leather goods.

Main bazars, shopping centres and fairs Total number of bazars and shopping centres is 49, most noted of which are New Market, Gausia, Dhanmondi Hawkers Market and Chadni Chawk; fairs: Baishaki Mela and Book Fair at Kalabagan Park.
